All Patterned up

Shirt: Macys  Skirt: Jason Wu for Target  Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita
If you think this outfit looks a little familiar you’re right, I wore a very similar outfit here. I wore this outfit to my internship and though I like the look of the outfit I probably should have worn something else that day. I just wasn’t feeling that outfit for that day. That said I do like this outfit, the different patterns make it interesting while the pleats and ruffle detail make it ultra feminine. One of the trends for fall is winter florals, I’m not a huge floral girl but I’m excited to work this skirt into that trend and style it for a colder season.
How was your labor day? I spent mine with a terrible head cold 🙁 I like fall but, apparently, fall doesn’t like me. I did though take advantage of a few labor day sales. Did you get anything good this labor day?

super casual maxi

Shirt: Target Skirt: ebay (originally AA) shoes: DV for Dolce Vita
I wore this outfit last weekend to run some errands. I bought this skirt during my maxi skirt obsession earlier this year. I was really into American Apparel maxis but they’re a little expensive so I looked on ebay and found this one for $25. Although it has two layers of chiffon the skirt is still pretty sheer, but I don’t have a huge problem with that as I often wear shorts under my skirts anyway. When I first got the skirt I wasn’t sure how I wanted to style it. I had a black shirt I liked but not with the skirt. Finally I tried it on with this t-shirt and it clicked. I got the t-shirt a few years ago and am sad to say that it’s pretty much been relegated to lounge wear. It has holes in it and isn’t really right to wear outside unless it’s knotted like so. Anyway I’m still in love with Maxi’s and I think I may have to invest in a jersey maxi for fall. There’s just something about wearing a long skirt that makes you feel like a lady.

Taliesin Outfit #2 :Pattern Mixing like a fiend

Oliver likes to jump on me when I seem to be randomly standing around.
Top: Trifted Skirt: Jason Wu for Target Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita
The thirfted striped shirt strikes again! I wore this the last day of our trip. I love the pattern mixing in this outfit. I read awhile ago that stripes and floral prints work well together, so I figured i’d give it a go with this outfit. I really like how it turned out and I think it helps that both patterns are also in the same color family. I wanted something easy and comfortable to wear on the last day of our trip and this worked perfectly. I didn’t feel like doing my hair so I pulled it up into a top knot. I’m not 100% sure about the top knot though, I think if it were back a little more I’d like it more. Anyway I really like this outfit and have another shirt that is also blue and white that I’ll probably pair with this skirt in a future post. Anyway that’s all for now!

Taliesin Outfit #1

Shirt and Skirt:: Thrifted  Earrings: PLNDR  Belt: Target  Sunnies: Forever 21  Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita
This is my outfit from the first day of our Taliesin trip. I’m only going to post two of the outfits I wore on the trip so I can move on to more recent outfits. This is the outfit I wore the first full day of the trip. I was going to save it for the tour of Taliesin but I felt like wearing it the day before, so I did. I wore this outfit awhile ago with a gold necklace instead of earrings and I think I like that better, adds more interest to the shirt. That said I really like this outfit, there’s something easy yet chic about it that appeals to me.
Anyway I’m trying to save some money so I’m gonna try and not shop so much (or at all if I can) this month and possibly into the next. I have enough summer clothes to last until the end of the season so I’m going to try and post more outfit posts and fewer thrift finds. I’m excited to do it though, since I still have a lot of summer outfits to show you all!

What I wore to a sweltering Art-A-Whirl

Skirt: Thrifted Top: Forever 21 Sandals: DV by Dolce Vita
I wore this outfit Friday to go to the library, do a little thrifting and attend a few Art-A-Whirl shows. We went to my best friend’s close friend Rudy Fig’s solo gallery show at the Rogue Buddha Gallery. She has a cool whimsical style best described as “a cosmic world of candy coated vixens, magical garden tea parties, and psychological purging.” If you didn’t get out to art-a-whirl last week or didn’t see Rudy’s show (and you’re in the Minneapolis area) you can catch it at Rogue Buddha Gallery until June 16th. We also visited Tarnish and Gold’s Buy Art show that my best friend was showing in along with lots of other great artists. The Buy Art show runs until the end of June so go and see it if you’re in the north east Minneapolis area. We ended the night at the Future Presence 5 show at Future Presence Gallery. It was our first time at art-a-whirl and it was a pretty fun night despite the hot and humid weather.
You may or may not remember this skirt from this post a couple weeks ago. When I got the skirt I knew how I wanted to style it for the colder months but was at a bit of a loss with what to wear with it in the summer. So, I went through my wardrobe and came up with different tops to pair with it for Summer. I came up with more than a few that I’ll definitely be posting later this summer. Although it may not look like it I’m actually mixing patterns. The top is a thinner striped top and the skirt has a cute little skeleton key print. I think they work well together, although the colors of the skirt and the top aren’t exact matches they complement each other well. The sandals may have been better if they were a neutral color, but I love these sandals soo much I just couldn’t help but wear them. I was lusting hard for these sandals last year when I saw them on karmaloop in turquoise. I loved them but I didn’t have the money to buy them. So, when I finally got a job I knew I had to have them. The only problem was they were out of season and unavailable at most stores. There were some on PLNDR and eBay but they weren’t in my size. Miraculously I found a pair on a random website and bought them, in February. So when it was finally hot enough to rock sandals I was super excited. In other words, expect to see these a lot in the coming weeks/months.

Gwynnie Style

Inspiration

Today I’m trying something different and linking up with the lovely ladies at Two Birds and their inspiration monday feature. Basically every week they post a photo of a celebrity and then style an outfit inspired by the photo. This week’s inspiration is a casual yet chic Gwyneth Paltrow.

My interpretation

ignore the mess in our backyard we’re in the process of moving things around/ spring cleaning

Sweater: ASOS  Dress worn as skirt & Tights: Target  Boots: Gifted

Gwyneth’s dress (skirt?) reminded me of a target dress I got a couple years ago so I wore that as a skirt and paired it with this light pink kitty sweater I got from ASOS.  I liked it because the cat on the sweater looks my cat Tang. I decided to forgo the necklace since the sweater I chose had an image on the front and a necklace would look a bit too busy. I probably could have added a few other accessories but I was in a rush when I left the house and didn’t have any time to grab any.
Since Friday and Saturday were incredibly hot I was afraid this look would be a bit too warm.. Luckily by Sunday, after a Saturday rain/hail storm, the temperature had cooled and I had to add tights. I actually really like this outfit. I would have never put it together by myself but I like it and would wear it again. In case you were wondering the random white dog in my gif is a friends dog we’re watching while he moves. His name is Famous and he’s a white German Shepard. I took my pictures outsides so I could throw the ball/spend some time with him and try out a new picture location. I think he thought all the jumping was a little cooky but he’s a good sport.

Boho Biker: what I wore on a rainy garage sale-ing day

wore it like this most of the day

sans jacket

all buttoned up
So I figured out I was in Fonzie attire, started doing the fonz, and things went downhill from there. lol. Just picture all these with me saying “ayyy”.

Dress: Thrifted  Jacket/Belt/Tights:Target  Boots: Gifted
I wore this outfit on my rained out 100 mile garage sale adventure. I wasn’t really sure what to wear to it then I remembered this dress. I got the dress during the fall/winter at Goodwill and forgot about it until I did some spring closet cleaning. I thought it was going to be hot last Saturday, but when I woke up it was cold and cloudy so I ended up adding the tights and jacket to warm it up. I’m not sure about the dress; maybe it needs a bigger belt or maybe I should leave it without a belt.  Anyway I’ll have plenty of time to wear it differently over the summer. I have to say I really like it with the jacket, I’ve always been a fan of masculine/feminine look but never really pulled it off until now. I don’t get to wear the jacket as much as I’d like so it was kind of a bonus that it kind of randomly got added to the outfit. I know you’re probably sick to death of these boots but I kind of love them. My best friend gave them to me because they didn’t fit her and I have to say I owe her big! I gotta find something to get her since these boots are so killer. Anyway this outfit turned out to be a perfect rainy day garage sale-ing outfit since it was stylish and warm. I can’t wait to wear this dress when it warms up, I’m already thinking up styling possibilities.

Space-y?

Friday night I went to a space themed dance party in the soon to be demolished old HQ for a local charity. Since it was space themed, and I love an excuse to dress in theme,  I was all ready to get together a cheap and easy alien outfit. Ideally if money and time had been no object I would have worn some sort of galaxy print dress/clothing item like this one rocked by Bronny of Fat Aus, alas time and money were a factor. So, my main inspiration was Karen Walker’s 2012 Sunglasses ad. I saw them on Pinterest a few months ago and immediately thought they’d be a perfect inspiration since I don’t own any overtly space-y items. I figured I’d get or make some antenna, wear some over-sized sunglasses and a white T-shirt with a black skirt and call it a day.

Unfortunately I woke up Friday feeling all kids of icky and had no desire to go to Party City and see if they had any antenna or try and make some of my own. Fortunately by the time the party was starting I felt a lot better and did end up going, but since I didn’t have any antenna I went with plan B.

OK so I couldn’t resist to add a little “space” to my pictures too.

Dress:Thrift  Necklace:ASOS  Tights:Target  Boots:Gifted

So, I wore my grey dress that’s kind of space-y (in that it’s grey?) and then accessorized. I ended up wearing my gold ASOS collar necklace with it because it seemed more space-y. I also went with boots since I was planning to dance a lot and didn’t really feel like wearing flats. I think the boots were a good idea since it made the outfit a bit more casual and they were perfect to dance in. When I got there most people really weren’t in costume. All that planning for nothing! But there were a few people dressed up,  notably two people who made impressive cardboard robot outfits that kind of reminded me of  Pokemon (sorry no pictures). I probably could have gone a lot more casual, since most people were wearing jeans, but I don’t think I looked out of place. Anyway it was a good time and reminder that I need to go out dancing more!

Western-y

Top and Skirt: Thrifted Tights & Belt: Target  Boots: Gifted Necklace: Stella and Dot (gifted)
As much as I love this skirt I haven’t worn it as much as I’d like.  I got it at the end of August last year and when I figured out a good outfit for it (posted here) I just repeated it until temperatures turned colder. I hadn’t bothered to really think up any new outfits for the skirt until I thrifted this shirt and was thinking of different things I could pair it with.  Anyway I really like this outfit, if you couldn’t tell. I’ve figured out that the more I like an outfit the more pictures I add to a post. Anyway this is also the first time I’ve worn my stella and dot necklace. I’m not really sure why I haven’t worn it more, but you’ll definitely be seeing it more in the future.  I was hoping to wear this outfit sans tights, but the weather here is still a bit dreary. It rained most of the past week and temps have varied from mild to downright cold. I decided I didn’t want to wait any longer and threw on the tights.
I wore this last Friday to go to an estate sale and attend possibly the most awkward Mary Kay Party ever. The estate sale had a lot of cool mid century chairs, but by the time I got there they were all gone. I did get the cool 50’s snack set and a small Pyrex bowl I mentioned in the previous post. The one thing that can kind of suck about Estate sales is that if you see something cool, unless you get up at the crack of dawn and get in line early, it’ll probably be gone by the time you get there. Antique dealers and people who make a living re-selling items are quick to wake up early and get some of the most desirable pieces. Since I don’t have my own place, only have limited space, have limited funds and am not a morning person I generally don’t get up and wait in line at estate sales. I have gotten up earlier for an estate sale but it was the second day (50% off day) and we had been there the day before and knew the items we wanted would still be there the next day for cheaper. I suppose if I really saw something I couldn’t live without I may get up early to go to a sale but for now I sleep in and wait and see what’s left. If what I wanted is gone it’s OK, it saves me some money.

Top, Pants, and Shoes: Target  Cardigan: Thrift (Thakoon for Target) Satchel: Thrift (originally Target)  Bracelets: gifted   Earrings: forever21

Okay so enough lists lets get to the good stuff, I finally have an outfit post! Usually 99% of my outfit doesn’t come from one store, but in this outfit I seem to be a walking billboard for Target. It’s cool though I like Target, they’re a Minnesota company (Target HQ is in downtown Minneapolis) and they donate big time to local thrift stores, so really I can’t complain.
I wore this Sunday to go to an estate sale and do some thrifting. After a week of cold weather and grey skies Sunday was sunny and warm, a welcome change. I had a whole outfit planned to wear that day but it was planned for a slightly colder day, so I changed it up a bit and went with this one. I bought the pants a couple weeks ago when the target gift card I got from my uncle for my birthday (last November) was finally burning a hole in my pocket. I didn’t expect to find anything but actually came away with two really lovely things. I recently fell for the colored pant trend so when I saw these I knew I had to get them. They’re supposed to be ankle length but since I’m a lowly 5’0 1/2  (5’1 if you like to round up) they’re just regular pant length on me. A lot of times pants that are made ankle length or capri look terrible on me because they either have an odd hem at the bottom or make me look even shorter. Thankfully with the skinny leg on these pants they don’t look odd on my short frame. The T-shirt is an oldie I got a couple years ago from Target that is really comfortable and slouchy. It wasn’t really warm enough to go without a cardigan so I threw this Thakoon for Target cardi I thrifted a couple years ago on to keep warm. I accessorized with Forever 21 earrings and these pastel bracelets I got a million years ago from my grandma that now are on trend, go figure. Anyway I really like how the outfit turned out and you’ll definitely be seeing more of these pants in future posts.
