What I didn’t buy at the Thrift Store

I haven’t found anything too crazy at the thrifts lately. But I figured I’d share a few of the things I’ve noticed but for one reason or another didn’t buy.
1. Silver and White Vase
I thought this vase had a pretty cool look and love the texture on the silver part. But I didn’t have a place for it at home.
2. Dooney and Burke Monogram Bag

This bag reminds me of hard of high school so hard, you know that time about 10 years ago (yeesh) when colorful monogram designer bags were all the rage. I carried it around thinking maybe it was worth something or my moms friend who re-sells things could re-sell it but I looked it up on the internets and it wasn’t worth much, so I left it for someone who’d love it

3. Silver and Turquoise Plates

I’m not sure what you’d use these for maybe as a bowl to hold fruit or something? Anyway I love the kind of southwestern vibe of the plates and I thought they were pretty cool.

4. Green Chair

The Upholstery of the chair isn’t great but I like the lines of it.

5. Clarinet

Aside from Pianos / Keyboards I haven’t found any musical instruments at the thrifts. So when I randomly opened this case and found a clarinet I thought it was pretty cool. I don’t play and don’t know a thing about them so I left it.

6.  Lanvin Bow Flats

Yes you read that right I found a pair of legit Lanvin flats that fit me perfectly, but I left them behind. Why? Because they were $100.00. The day I went they did have 30% off clothes, shoes and Accessories but $70.00 was still too much. I looked it up and that is a really good deal on these shoes considering they retail for 500.00-750.00 online. I probably should have gotten them, but I’m trying to save money right now so I passed.

7.  Orange Guy Bowling Pin

This bowling pin was unique. I would never buy it but I thought it was kind of fun.

Currently Obsessed : Flair

If you’re like me when you think of flair you think of this:

flair office space

But just like mini back packs and slip dresses TGI Fridays level Flair is back with a vengeance, and I’m kind of loving it. I recently thrifted a nice denim jacket and have since then been obsessing over what Flair I want to add, how much, and where. I’m all about DIY Flair and have been scouring the interwebs for cute patches, pins, and jacket inspiration. I’m also slightly obsessed patches on things besides jackets like shirts, bags, skirts and jeans. Here’s a few inspiration pics I’ve been drooling over.

Since obsessing over flair I’ve noticed pin flair is a lot easier to come by than patches. I’ve found pins at flea markets and thrift stores, usually for around .99/$1.00. But patches… patches are harder to come by. So i’ve had to resort to online avenues to start my patch collection. Although I think I may check out my local Walmart, JoAnne Fabrics and Michael’s to see if they have any cool ones on hand as well. If you know of any good places to get cheap patches let me know! Patches it turns out are a bit expensive. Anyway, Here’s a little peek at some of my favorite patches from around the web.

I also love this DIY embroidered signature jacket I saw by Youtuber Drew Scott. It’d be a lot of work but his results are amazing.

Finally I’m pretty sure I need another Denim jacket because while I love all the Flair part of me also wants just a simple denim jacket with no frills for my more basic days. Back to the thrifts I go!

Here’s my current Flair situation:

Are you into the Flair trend? If so let me know if you’ve done any DIY’s ,where you’re getting your flair inspo, and where you’re finding your flair.

OOTD: Too Cool for Spring

Top &Shoes: Thrift | Skirt: ASOS
May was a pretty busy month for me as there’s mothers day as well as my boyfriend and mom’s birthdays.  I’m not sure why but It seems like half the people I know have May birthdays. Anyway I wore this to my boyfriends birthday dinner with his family, he turned the big 2-5. Honestly it wasn’t quite warm enough for this outfit, but I wanted to wear something cute and this was the only thing I liked that day. In my defense the week before had been pretty cold so when it was kinda warm out I may or may not have gone a little overboard. But I like the outfit nonetheless. I only really wear this skirt in the warmer months so it’s fun to break it out.

I would also like to add my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who were violently gunned down in Orlando last weekend. Here are a few links if you’re as mad as I am about the continued gun violence in our country: resources for turning our sadness into action , contact your representative, remember those lost. And finally just remember that love is powerful so if you hear someone saying homophobic, racist, or islamophobic things speak up, Your voice is powerful.

Collective Thrift Haul 2015 to … now

I haven’t done a thrift haul in a year! Sorry guys I’ve fallen off my blogging game, but I’m coming back I promise! I’m aiming for twice a week. Anyway I have found some awesome stuff in the past year so I figured I’d get my butt in gear and show you what I’ve found!

1.  Vintage Green Coat with fur collar

One thing I’ve been searching the thrift stores for since forever is a nice vintage coat that fits me well. I’ve found a good number of coats that meet this description but all of them have been way too long. I’m a hearty 5’1 so many of the coats are made for taller people and leave me looking like I’m playing dress up. So I was shocked when I tried this bad boy on and it not only fit but it wasn’t too long! It was originally $24.00 but I got it on sale for $12, score!
2. Mid Century Modern Blue lamp
I found this guy at the salvation army during the MLK day sales. I wasn’t sure if they were having  a sale or not but it was near another thrift store and I figured I’d check and see what they had. Fortunately they were having a sale and I spotted this lamp. I immediately went into a mini frenzy and wasn’t sure if I should get it. There were two lamps and they were marked 39.99 a piece. WTF salvation army? but the sale made them around 20. I decided to compromise and only get one since I had already spent way too much money. But yeah in hindsight I should have gotten the second one, since it would have been better to have a pair. But you live, you learn right?

3. Mid Century Teak Lamp

I found this guy at Savers for like $7.00 a little before Christmas. I’m always looking for these teak lamps since I don’t see them much at thrift stores. It has a broken end but for 7 bucks I was willing to overlook that. I really like it and it’s almost identical to one I saw at the Junk Bonanza for way more. Now I just need to find a cool lampshade.

4. Red Wing Pottery Capistrano

I found this at the Salvation army in early November. There are a bunch more pieces than those shown but I didn’t feel like digging them all out for the picture.  It was in one of those baskets they make up for matching dishes and was pretty expensive,  like a $120.00. I think it’s probably the most expensive things I’ve ever bought at a thrift store. But, my mom collects this pattern and It’s Red Wing pottery so it’s very collectible. My mom went to an estate sale once that was selling this pattern and they were selling each piece individually so I figured even if it was expensive It was still a pretty good deal based solely on the sheer number of things in the basket and it would make a good Christmas gift for my mom.

5.  Fiestaware creamer

This is another Christmas gift for my mom, she also collects/ uses Fiestaware dishes. I saw this little creamer and knew it was an item she didn’t have. Usually if I see Fiestaware at a thrift store I pick it up for her.

6.  Michael Kors Bag

I found this guy for $19.00 and from what I’ve read on the internet it’s a legit Michael Kors bag. It wasn’t in the glass case where you usually see suspected designer purses it was in the small home decor section next to candles and stuff. But I really like the bag and I’ve been using it pretty heavily since. I found it just in time too since my old purse was seconds away from breaking.

7. Stuart Weitzmen studded loafers

I found these the same day at the Michael Kors bag, sometimes you just have those days when you’re on a roll. I haven’t completely broke them in but I like em’ a lot and they were around $14.00.

8.  Christmas Pyrex

I found this awhile ago at a Goodwill but never shared it on the blog. It’s one of the odd Pyrex pieces I’ve picked up in the last few years.  I’ve mentioned before I’ve pretty much limited myself to only picking up pyrex with patterns I like on them so it weeds out a lot of Pyrex. This one has a very cute and festive design though so I went ahead and picked it up.

9.  ASOS loafers

I got these at Savers last year sometime in like new condition and they’ve been in heavy rotation ever since. They’re pretty comfy and I think they look pretty cool.

10.  Sole Society Pumps

I’ve been looking for a good solid pair of pumps for more business-y situations and I think these fit the bill. I like that they have a smaller heel, I’m not real confident in heels just yet so they’re kinda the perfect height. They give some height but aren’t so tall I feel wobbly in them. They’re around $69.95 dollars retail but I got them for $9.

11. I heart __ picture frame

This picture frame has been in my ModCloth “loves” list forever so when I saw it at Savers I had to pick it up. I’m either gonna give it to my bf for a present at some point or keep it, we’ll see.  If you like it you can get it online here.

Spring/Summer 2016 Essentials

 ss16 wants

My list of wants this season are pretty small since the 70’s trend has continued full speed into this season a lot of the pieces I acquired last year have transferred pretty easily. Off the shoulder is the main trend I’m obsessed with this year and I am definitely looking to add some key pieces to my wardrobe. Everything else is pretty accessories heavy. I’ve been digging strappy shoes for awhile and definitely need a pair of strappy flats to add to my summer rotation. I’m also pretty obsessed with the white sneaker trend. With all the events that go on this season a good walking shoe is essential and a white sneaker is one of the chicest ways to go. And of course everyone needs a chic pair of sunnies to top off any summer look. I’ve been obsessed with the Dior So Real sunnies but I can’t afford to drop $300 on a pair so cheaper knock offs it is!

This thing called life

Prince Rogers Nelson 1958-2016

As pretty much everyone knows at this point Prince died Thursday of unknown causes at Paisley Park.  I won’t lie that day was a pretty rough one for my family. My mom is a huge Prince fan and has been since the early 80’s. I was raised on Prince, he was one of a few artist my mom would blare loudly on Saturday mornings when I was a kid as she cleaned the house. And as a local (and international) Icon his music has always played on the radio here no matter what the station. Possibly rarest of all is that he stayed in Minnesota and was really a part of the community. There are other celebrities from Minnesota but very few still make Minnesota their main residence ( and weather wise that’s understandable) but the fact that Prince stayed always made us love him even more.

So even though I never met Prince and didn’t know him it was almost like he was part of the family, as silly as that sounds. When we heard he had died, officially, the rest of the day was pretty much a loss. I even cried which legit I’ve only done for one other celebrity, my fave Amy Winehouse. I was so glad I got to see him live earlier this year but deeply saddened and in stunned disbelief that he was really gone. While there were many dance parties and events that night I just couldn’t bring myself to mourn that way. I love to dance, but I just didn’t feel like dancing that day. I did though love seeing some of the performers on live-streams via facebook.  After a few days it’s definitely gotten better and i’m moved on from just being sad to being able to really celebrate his life. May he rest in purple.

OOTD dark v darker

I wore this last Saturday to see Batman v Superman. I actually enjoyed the movie, although I did have low expectations. There were definitely some things I didn’t care for in the movie but overall pretty good and I’m super hyped for the Wonder Woman movie.

Jacket: Target (old) T-shirt: Thrift (Old Navy) Jeans and Shoes: Thrift (Target)

Anyway my desire to wear bright springy colors hasn’t quite kicked in yet. I think It has to be a bit more consistently warm and nice out to spark a little color in my wardrobe. So for now I’m still gravitating towards blacks, grays, and olive green. But I did get to wear my new to me leopard booties. I’ve worn them a few times and they’re pretty comfy. I wouldn’t wear them for a long time or on a real walk intensive situation but they’re fun and add a nice pop of pattern to the outfit.

It was a cold and wet day that Saturday so grey seemed appropriate. Unfortunately my jacket, which is a good four/five years old is on it’s last legs, the “leather” is ripping and it’s just time for a new one. I’m hoping to find a good one during end of season sales or next fall, we’ll see. Obviously the best scenario would be to find a great one at the thrifts, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out there as well. Anyway hope you all had an awesome Easter if you celebrate or at least enjoyed some 50% off candy and/or time with your family if you don’t.

Obsessed: Ear Crawlers and Ear Jackets

I’ve recently become obsessed Ear Crawlers and Ear Jackets. Every few years I get really into jewelry and this seems to be one of those instances.  I’ve recently been into more delicate simple jewelry and have been steering a bit away from bigger statement pieces (though I still love those as well). I think simple jewelry is just easier to wear and kind of chic for everyday.  Anyway I have a small but growing collection, thanks in part to a Bauble Bar sale, so I figured I’d show it.

Most of the earrings above are no longer available online but all were found at Target or on Bauble Bar so those are great places to check for alternatives.

Top 5 Random Videos I obsessively watch on YouTube

1.  Apartment Tours

I’m nosy, especially when it comes to home decor. There’s a reason I love apartment therapy and that HGTV is the background sound to my home life, I love to see how people style their spaces. So it wasn’t long until I randomly discovered apartment/home tours on YouTube.  I’ll admit many of the apartments rely heavily on IKEA for decor, but everyone has different taste so it can be fun to see how people style those pieces. There are some that are more unique, like the ones above, which are always nice to find. But I’ve seriously found myself watching apartment tours on repeat for way longer than I should.

2. Thrift Hauls

I enjoy looking at what people find at thrift stores/ flea markets. Watching thrift hauls really gets my thrifting mojo going and fulfills that thrill for times when I’m not in the mood to thrift or can’t for whatever reason.

3. Lookbooks

Lookbooks are fun simply to see the outfits people put together, but it’s also a good place to find some outfit inspiration. There have been times when I’m unsure how to style an item and have turned to lookbooks for inspiration, they can be very helpful.

4. Thrift / Flea Market shopping videos

These videos are even better than thrift hauls as the people take you with them to thrift stores/ flea markets. It’s fun to see what other people are looking for at the thrifts. I follow some YouTubers that do these videos that search for things I know little or nothing about and don’t collect, but it’s still fun to learn about what they’re into and see what they find. For example Pat from Pat the NES Punk searches for retro video games and toys at Flea Markets around his San Diego home and Lazy Game Reviews thrifts for vintage video games, PC games, old computers, computer accessories, as well as other vintage electronics. Will I collect these things? prolly not, but it’s fun to learn more about them and get a secondhand thrift high.

5. Daily/ weekly Vlogs

I love a good reality show and Vlogs are basically self-made reality shows, with slightly less drama. For some reason even mundane things like grocery shopping or what the person is watching on TV can be interesting in a vlog. I think vlogs can satisfy that voyeur side we all have.

OOTD Low-key Valentine’s Day

Dress and Leggings: Trifted  |  Boots: Payless
I’ve always had a generally positive view of Valentine’s Day, even when I was single. But man is it hard to love that day when you’re in a relationship. Valentine’s Day, especially if you want to go out to eat, is one hell of a racket. So this year after going out for the past few Valentine’s Days we decided to do take-out and chill. It was very low-key but perfect, and cheap. lol. Even though we didn’t go out I wanted to dress up a little for the day so I wore this thrifted dress I got during the MLK day sales. I tried it on and instantly knew it’d be a perfect V-day dress, it’s sort of on theme but doesn’t scream valentine’s day. I won’t lie i’m pretty obsessed with this dress and will probably wear it out until it’s too warm to wear it.
