1.  Apartment Tours

I’m nosy, especially when it comes to home decor. There’s a reason I love apartment therapy and that HGTV is the background sound to my home life, I love to see how people style their spaces. So it wasn’t long until I randomly discovered apartment/home tours on YouTube.  I’ll admit many of the apartments rely heavily on IKEA for decor, but everyone has different taste so it can be fun to see how people style those pieces. There are some that are more unique, like the ones above, which are always nice to find. But I’ve seriously found myself watching apartment tours on repeat for way longer than I should.                              

2. Thrift Hauls

I enjoy looking at what people find at thrift stores/ flea markets. Watching thrift hauls really gets my thrifting mojo going and fulfills that thrill for times when I’m not in the mood to thrift or can’t for whatever reason.


3. Lookbooks

Lookbooks are fun simply to see the outfits people put together, but it’s also a good place to find some outfit inspiration. There have been times when I’m unsure how to style an item and have turned to lookbooks for inspiration, they can be very helpful.

4. Thrift / Flea Market shopping videos

These videos are even better than thrift hauls as the people take you with them to thrift stores/ flea markets. It’s fun to see what other people are looking for at the thrifts. I follow some YouTubers that do these videos that search for things I know little or nothing about and don’t collect, but it’s still fun to learn about what they’re into and see what they find. For example Pat from Pat the NES Punk searches for retro video games and toys at Flea Markets around his San Diego home and Lazy Game Reviews thrifts for vintage video games, PC games, old computers, computer accessories, as well as other vintage electronics. Will I collect these things? prolly not, but it’s fun to learn more about them and get a secondhand thrift high.

5. Daily/ weekly Vlogs

I love a good reality show and Vlogs are basically self-made reality shows, with slightly less drama. For some reason even mundane things like grocery shopping or what the person is watching on TV can be interesting in a vlog. I think vlogs can satisfy that voyeur side we all have.

1. A Fox

I found this Illustrated fox/ cardboard cutout at Savers a few weeks back. The fox is very handsome and would be a fun piece in any room really, especially a kids room, but I didn’t really have a need for it and lately have been trying to not bring in unnecessary things. Hopefully this got a home on some adorable child’s wall.
2. Brass and Marble side table 
I really liked this side table, but wanna know what I have a lot of? side tables. I’m not even kidding I have five in one room. This was cute but I need closed storage more than side tables, so I passed.

3. lil Wishbone

I used to have a dog named Wishbone (before the TV show started thank you very much) and she was the sweetest dog. I also was a fan of the PBS show and even went to meet wishbone once at the Mall with my best friend and her mom, but the line was so long we got fed up and left. Anyway I spotted this mini Wishy at an estate sale and had instant nostalgia, but stuffed animals I need not.
4. Rich n’ Creamy Nestle Cup
I loved the typography on this mug and the cool 70’s vibes. I was going to get it if I ended up finding anything else, but I didn’t find anything else that day and forgot about the mug. 

5. Mid Century Modern Library cart

I’ve seen these before on craigslist and such but have honestly never really got them. I’m sure there is someone somewhere who styles these bad boys amazingly and would make me regret not buying it. But, I’d rather have cleaner looking closed storage or storage with non-slanted shelves. I thought about this for a while (it was super cheap) but I decided to pass and let it go to someone who’d be really excited for it.

6. Gold Lamp with potential

Something about the clean lines of this gold lamp drew me to it. With the right lampshade and/or a coat of spraypaint it could be really cool. But for the most part unless it’s an amazing Mid Century lamp that I just cannot live without I generally pass on lamps, like side table I already have too many. 

7. Men’s symbol Mug

This was another piece I told myself I’d go back for if I found anything else, but I didn’t. It’s very Austin Powers and I love that about it. The only thing with vintage mugs is they are often pretty small. That is obviously coming from the land of huge portions and giant mugs but I’ve become so accustomed to bigger mugs I find it hard buy cute smaller ones at the thrift store. I feel like I’d opt for the bigger ones and they’d be used mostly for decoration, which is kind of silly.

8. Backpack

I was given an old real leather coach mini backpack a few weeks before I saw this one. When I first spotted it I was hopping it was a bucket bag, so when I found out it was a backpack I was a little bummed. It’s super cute but I don’t really need two small backpacks, so I left it.

8. TACO CATS IN SPACE!!!!!

I saw this shirt hanging on a dressing room and loved it. But I wasn’t really in the mood to check the tag or try it on.  I love it though, had I been in a different mood ( and it been in my size) I may have bought it. 
9. Small Mid Century Lamp

I carried this around with me a bit, it was only three dollars but in the end I decided it really wasn’t cool enough for me to bring home. Plus I don’t really have a place for it.

10. Big Box Light

I liked the look of this lamp. Obviously it’s very big and bulky but something about it was appealing, I still passed though.

11.  Mixed Media lamp

 This lamp had a cool look i’d never seen before. But didn’t need it.

12.  Sand Dollar Lamps

There were two of these lamps and I actually think they’re really cool. I love the texture on them and think they have a really interesting shape. But I really have no place to put them, so I passed.

What I didn’t Buy at the Thrift Store

Hey guys! So try as I might I just couldn’t bring myself to buy anything yesterday at the Memorial Day thrift sales. I went to five stores and came away with nothing! There were just too many people and I was really just not in the mood. I mean one savers was giving out numbers for the dressing room, nope no sorry not gonna happen. So instead of a thrift haul I’d thought I’d do another addition of things I didn’t buy at the thrift store.

1.  Wagon Wheel Chairs 

 I’m Mildly obsessed with wagon wheel furniture.  If I had a house with a finished basement I would be tempted to decorate the whole thing in mid century wagon wheel furniture, it’s just so kitschy and cool. These chairs are pretty awesome but I don’t have a finished basement awaiting a sweet wagon wheel collection and if i’m going to go through the hassle of buying thrift store furniture It has to be something I know I can use.  So I left these for a better home.

2. Barber Chair

This chair is pretty cool but it was also pretty beat up. One of the arm rests fell completely off and  I also have no immediate use for it. So it stayed at the thrifts.

3. Mosaic-y Lamps

These are cool and I kind of regret not getting them but I have enough lamps and don’t really need anymore unless they’re something I can’t live without. These I could live without so I  left them.

9. Dirty Wavy Lamp

I liked the pattern on this lamp and thought if cleaned it would have a lot of potential. But again I don’t really need anymore lamps.

10. Mid Century Sliding Door Bookcase

Ok I kind of regret not getting this. It was only around $10/11.00 and I’ve wanted one of these for awhile. The catch? I want one with glass doors and these are solid wood. In hindsight I should have gotten it anyway but I guess I’ll wait for the next one I see.


11-12. Cat Statue and “Marble” top side table

I really liked the egyptian cat statue but it was like $14.00 and that seemed a bit pricey for a decorative cat. The side table was really cute too but one thing I really don’t need is another side table.

13. Emily Anne cross stitch

I have an old friend named Emily Anne who is exactly one day and eight years younger than whoever this cross stitch was made for. I kind of wanted to get it but I decided to just take a picture and maybe send it to her later.

14. Dress Form

I like the idea of a decorative dress form to hang clothes and stuff on, so when I see them at the thrifts I’m always a little interested. This one was a whopping $50.00 so I kept on walking.

15.  Pitcher

I liked the design on this pitcher but didn’t need one.

16. Mid Century Lawn Chairs

These lawn chairs were pretty cool but they were also in need of refinishing and were a bit pricey at about $70.00 for the pair. They’re very cool but were a bit expensive and not really practical for me right now, so I passed.

17. Mikasa Cups

I thought liked these but they were kind of small and into larger mugs at the moment.

18. Mid Century Small Dresser/ Nightstand 

These dressers ( there’s a twin behind it) were nice and would be good storage. I think they’d be cute with different pulls. But  A.) They didn’t have a tag and B.) I realized I liked them 99% because of the mid century style legs, which you can buy anywhere.  I decided to leave them since I really wasn’t in love.

19. Jelly Bean White House

This is a thing. My grandpa loves Jelly beans so I was slightly tempted to get it but … I don’t think anyone really needs a jelly bean white house. Except maybe for Jelly Bean Barack Obama, Obama bean?

2. 50’s Lady head vase. 

 I saw this amazing episode of the Antonio Treatment on HGTV a million years ago (or at least before it was cancelled, was it cancelled?). Anyway it was this cool family that lived in a 50’s house and the wife was obsessed with all things 50’s. She had some of the coolest collections ever, one of which was of head vases and they were soo cool.  Video for proof:

I knew after the episode that I wanted to collect them, but haven’t really pulled the trigger on any until now. This one was $30, which isn’t too bad, so I figured i’d get it. I found it at the cottage house, a local vintage occasional sale place. I like the cottage house but a lot of the people that sell there tend to like the shabby chic look. So i’ll find a piece of furniture I like but it’ll be shittly painted green and distressed, which really isn’t my style. I like wood, I wish people would just leave wood alone.


3. Made in Japan red lotus dish

  I first saw these bowls on A living space and thought they looked really cool. I’ve found a lot of remakes of them that are a lot bigger and generally white or black, which are cool but not the vintage ones I was looking for. Then I found a mint one at Value Village and recently this red. I just think they’re cute.

 4. Mid century buffet/credenza

After helping my friend run some errands and visiting one Savers with her I decided after dropping her off to go to Bloomington and check out that savers as they were having their pre-fourth of July sale for Savers club card members. I figured if I went Sunday I could focus on going to other Savers I don’t frequent as often on Monday when it was 50% off for everyone. So while browsing the furniture, I have a set route I take at thrift stores that some day I’ll write about, I came across this cool mid-century buffet. A lady was looking at it when I first spotted it and I immediately hoped she was just checking it out. Thankfully she was. I looked at it, took a picture of it, then went and looked at dresses and shoes to mull it over. Soon I came back and one of the employees came up and started talking to me. After a little bit I thought it was worth the $25.00 price tag and I’d probably regret it if I didn’t get it. I mean look at those sexy legs! I think the guy kinda liked me because he gave me half off the thing even though I’m pretty sure furniture was excluded from the sale, but I’m not one to fuck up a discount. I was worried it wouldn’t fit in my tiny little car but luckily it kinda sorta did. I did though have to drive home with my back door ajar and tied to my car with an Ethernet cord, kinda sketch but it worked out. I’ve been looking for a similar mid-century piece to use as storage for awhile so it was one of those come to Jesus moments when you find something you’ve been wanting for a long time. I have these two plastic organizers full of papers in my room that I’ve been dying to get rid of, so I plan to purge some of the paper and put the rest in the new buffet. The buffet isn’t in mint condition, it has a chip on one of the sliding doors and one of it’s corners but for $16.00 bucks you really can’t complain too much.

5. Metal Crate

I’ve always liked the look of milk crates, maybe it’s my love of dairy or maybe just that cool industrial look. When I saw this one at the thrift store it I knew I had to get it. It reminded me of a similar one I pinned ever so long ago from Urban Outfitters (for 40 bucks). Luckily this one is a real milk crate and was a cool 2 dollars. I’d call that a bargain. I’m gonna use it for cool industrial looking storage, maybe for books maybe not, we’ll see.

6. Tiki Mugs GALORE!

I picked up all of these at a local Savers on their 4th of July Sale day. Since I already went to my usual Savers for the Savers club pre-sale the day before I was free to go to two of my favorite thrifts that I don’t visit as often because they’re not as convenient. Anyway I always search the housewares section during sale days, especially at Savers stores since their discount generally only applies to clothes, shoes, and accessories. So while everyone is looking through the stuff that’s on sale you can scoop up some really cool things, that are still pretty cheap, in the section that isn’t on sale. I found these beauts while checking the section for a second time. I think only one of the cups is actually vintage but I love a tiki mug and don’t really care if it’s vintage or not. One is actually from a local tiki restaurant, Psycho Suzi’s that makes you put down a deposit if you order a drink with a fancy mug and if you decided to keep it $5 is added to your bill, if not they don’t charge you.  I guess people were walking away with the mugs, but can you blame them?  Anyway I was glad I got to grow my tiki collection, it’s really shaping up nicely.

7. Fiestaware Yellow Pitcher

This is really for my mom. I love fiestaware but she’s invested in a whole dinner set of fiesta and is always on the lookout for more. So whenever I see fiestaware on a thrift excursion I usually pick it up for her. We already have a similar pitcher in red but I love the pitchers and I think the fun of Fiestaware is the ability to mix and match, so the more options, the more colors the better. The pitcher was a little pricey for a thrift store at $25.00 but It’s fiestaware and pretty much everyone knows it’s collectable so they price it accordingly. Plus I looked online and it was still cheaper than the similar pitchers I found (even the ones on sale), plus it’s for my mom.

8.  Green Haeger Gondola Planter

I try not to buy a ton of planters, unless they’re really cool, as I don’t have much of a green thumb and nothing really ever gets planted in them. But this little gondola guy was just too cool to pass up.
